The following are the announcements apple made at its “Hey Siri, Give me a hint” event held at 7000 seater venue in San Francisco on the 9th of September 2015, 10:30 p.m Indian Standard Time. Although 6S and 6S Plus are fantastic phones, the iPad Pro and the Apple T.V. stole away the show.
- Apple Watch:-
Apple did not make major changes or announcements to its watch, but increased straps and bands options to suit individual needs. The Sport model can now be had in either gold or rose gold in anodized aluminum. The new colors will be offered for the same price as the current Silver and Grey models in both 38mm and 42mm. watch is now available in the United States. The stainless steel model Apple Watch is now available in a Space Grey version that comes with a black sport band, also available is a special Product (RED) band for the stainless steel model, which Apple will donate a portion of the sales to fight AIDS. It also collaborated with Hermes to make beautiful bands for the Apple Watch.
2. Apple T.V :-
The new Apple TV is a giant leap forward for living room entertainment, specially if you are in the apple ecosystem, includes an App Store and a revamped remote with a trackpad and a voice-command button.
The new remote has a glass surface across the top that responds to touch. It lets viewers glide across a set of movies, or to fast-forward through a show. A dedicated button for Siri, Apple’s voice-command digital assistant. Siri results will search across Netflix, Hulu, HBO, Showtime and Apple’s own iTunes, but it omits direct competitor Amazon. The voice-recognition feature also lets viewers tell the Apple TV to jump ahead in a video, or look up content based on the cast, director, age, rating or date.
It supports old console like gaming with new content being added in the T.V’s app store with multiplayer gaming options if you have an iPhone or an iPod Touch. The OS for the T.V is built for ease of use with features that would answer your questions without disrupting entertainment, for e.g.:- one can as siri questions related to the movie you are watching and it would answer with an overlay sidebar. it can also tell weather, sports data, etc.
Apple TV though brilliant in every aspect would not be as relevant in India as it would be in the U.S.A for obvious reasons. Apple has priced the product at $149(Rs. 9,900) for the 32gb version and $199(Rs.13,200) for its 64gb sibling.
3. iPad Pro:-
Unveiling a new, larger version of the tablet. Called the iPad Pro, Apple wants to tackle the problem it is facing with the declining sales of the iPad, therefor Apple super-sized it with an new 12.9″ retina display that’s designed to be used with two hands, A9X 3rd gen 64 bit chip to give that extra boost in both GPU and CPU tasks which would get the work done faster that 80% of the portable laptops in the market. It also sports a 4 way stereo speaker system designed in a way to sense in which direction you are holding the device to give a superior surround sound effect.
Apple also unveiled two amazing pieces of technology to go along with it new iPad Pro, a new thin “smart keyboard” that also acts as a cover, which the company said is wrapped in a special fabric and built in a way to connect with a new lightning connector on the side of the device consisting of 3 round magnetic ports which will transfer both energy and data to and fro from the smart keyboard over. Apple will also offer a new device called the Apple Pencil, a stylus designed as a more precise way of interacting with the device. It has refined the Pencil in such a manner that integrates so well with iOS9 that it can really make quite a remarkable difference in user experience.
The iPad Pro will start at $799(Rs. 53,200) with 32 gigabytes of storage and $949(Rs.63,200) for 128gb for the wi-fi only models, it would offer the w-fi + Cellular version in 128gb capacity only, which would be priced at $1079 (Rs. 71,900) launching in November. The smart keyboard will cost $169(Rs. 11,200) and the pencil will cost $99(Rs.6,600).
4. iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus:-
Amongst all the excitement and adrenaline created from the the new Apple T.V and the iPad Pro Apple released the 4.7-inch iPhone 6S and 5.5-inch iPhone 6S Plus in which apple claims to have changed “everything”. We don’t agree. As the overall design is the same, change is quite prominent under the hood though with a marquee feature for this year’s iPhone 6S was expected to be the Force Touch technology used in the Apple Watch, a pressure-sensitive display that responds to various types of touches. The company instead unveiled 3D Touch, a feature that appears to have the same capabilities. It now offers a better 12 MegaPixel iSight camera which apple claims has worked really hard to not to detonate picture quality in. It indeed captures some amazing shots and can record videos with 4k resolution. Front camera also went through minor changes and selfies can now be taken with the screen used as “TrueTone” flash. The phone also has a new A9 3rd gen chip with built in M9 motion tracking processor.
While major hardware changes took place under the hood, Apple upped its software to take full advantage of the 3D touch display integrated in the entire UI in iOS9. Another bigger change, Siri can be activated via voice for the first time, allowing a user to ask the digital assistant questions or play music by saying “Hey Siri”. Apple also showed off brand new photo feature called “Live Photos” where around few milliseconds of video would be shot before and after of a photograph completely integrating within the photo and viewable on iOS9 through force touch and also on the entire line of apple products including Mac’s and the Apple Watch.
The new 4.7-inch 6S and 5.5-inch 6S Plus, which are the same size as last year’s models, will be available for preorder starting Saturday and available Sept. 25 in the US, UK, China, France, Japan, Australia and other markets. We can expect it to launch late October in India priced same as the previous models, starting at Rs.53,500 for the 6S and Rs.62,500 for the 6S Plus for the 16gb variants, just in time to make your Diwali special. It will be available in Silver, Space Grey, Gold and a brand new Rose Gold color to go well with the rose gold version of apple watch.
